Sometimes when you’re scouting a player you just know if the recruit is a good football player, and when you know…you know. With DJ Giddens… I know. Giddens, like Pollard (more so than Kalen Johnson), isn’t particularly special at anything, they’re just efficient and effective. Slap the ‘good’ label on them and move on. A player you reach 10-15 picks for but if they don’t fall to you you’ll be upset but your draft board isn’t ruined. Tyrone Tracy also comes to mind.
Giddens, Tracy, and Pollard all exceed at one thing, their ability to cut/slice while inside the box. Watching all three of these guys run you’ll see them moving one way, an LB moves up to make a tackle and they’ve instantly transferred their momentum in a completely different direction, which is why these players are so efficient, great balance, great change of direction, and enough size not to get taken down
Giddens had a great combine, posting a 4.43 40 with a 1.53 10-yard split. Just to reinforce what I see on tape he had a 39.5” vertical and 10’10” board jump, both 2nd-best in each of those events.
Gidden was incredibly efficient in 2024, where he averaged 6.6 yards per carry, on 205 attempts, in an offense with a very mobile but weak passer-type of QB.
In the passing game, Giddens has averaged 2 receptions per game the past two seasons, and in his 3 seasons, he has averaged 12.3; 11.1; and 12.3 yards per reception.
I have 0 concerns with DJ Giddens. He has no injury history, 3 fumbles with 1 lost in 530 touches… he is as “can’t miss” of a day 2 prospect as you can get.
The Data on DJ Giddens:
The Data isn’t too fond of Giddens, likely placing him as a career backup, but I can assure you that is the least likely outcome, assuming he doesn’t have a freak injury.
He reached 100+ rushing yards in 11 of his last 16 games… unreal.

Draft Outlook:
Add Giddens to another name on a long list of legit NFL RBs. If I were an NFL GM I would trade up somewhere in the third round just to guarantee I don’t miss out on a starting RB for the next 7+ years.
Career Outlook:
He won’t break any records, that’s just the way the NFL is now, but he is going to be a great piece for whatever team drafts him. Giddens won’t be a name we forget any time soon.
